Young Achievement Australia

Young Achievement Australia (YAA) was established in 1977 to help students, youth and the disadvantaged to link education with business and to provide young people with skills and knowledge to better equip them for their future working lives. In the 2006 program, students from the University of Melbourne have formed the company BRAINYak.

The Biotechnology Entrepreneur Program, the program through which BRAINYak is being run, is directed toward postgraduate strudents in the biological and biotechnological fields, and is intended to help scientists with the important, and cross-disciplined efforts of bringing scientific breakthroughs to the market.

During the 24 week program the students will:

  1. participate in the formation of the company
  2. sell shares to raise capital
  3. appoint management positions
  4. write the company code of ethics
  5. prepare a business plan
  6. conduct market research and establish a product
  7. manufacture, advertise and sell the product
  8. showcase the product at a tradeshow
  9. prepare an annual report
  10. liquidate the company and return profits to shareholders

Members of BRAINYak couldn't participate in this exciting and challenging experience without sponsors, so thankyou to the sponsors of the YAA Biotechnology Entrepreneur Program.
